FO - Lucy Bag

I have wanted to knit this for a while now, and finally decided to do it. The pattern is very easy, and adaptable. I think I spent most of my time figuring out the placement of the stripes. I knit this up for the Girl's kindergarten teacher. The Girl picked the colors, as they are all the colors her teacher wears. It was an extremely quick, fun knit. As always, the Cascade 200 felted like a dream, and I always enjoy the felting process. I did run this through the wash 3 times, as the pre-felted bag was gargantuan!

Pattern: Lucy Bag
Needles: 10.5 circular and double-points
Yarn: Cascade 220 Heathers.....I used 4 different colors. All of the purple was used.

I really enjoyed making this bag, and am going to knit one up for myself...real soon!

I am done with Green Gable, I just haven't been able to get a picture as it has rained nearly every day this month.....UGH! I am getting ready for the next sunny moment, though.

A conversation with the Boy...

As I was making lunch today, the Boy ran in from the living room where he had surrounded himself with a pile of books two feet high This is what happened:

the Boy....What are you making?

Me....pizza, and grapes and some chips

Boy...is that for me? for me? for me? for me?

Me...why yes, since you are the only one here right now.

Boy (flapping around the kitchen).....pizza and grapes and chips. Mom, you are The Best!

I love being Mom!

Oh, in knitting news, I am finished with my Lucy Bag, she's drying as I type. I'm hoping for a less gloomy day to take a good picture..maybe tomorrow. Also, finally, I am finished with Green Gable...yay! Also drying as I type.......pics to come soon!

Just Like Riding a Bike....

That's how I want this post to be, as it's been far too long since the last one. I know we all say it, "I'm so incredibly busy" - but seriously, I've been a bit overwhelmed with life lately. I'm the kind of gal that lays low when things get crazy.....I like to ride out the storm, go limp...that sort of thing. But, things appear to be calming down, or maybe I just seem better able to cope with them.

The Girl is about to finish Kindergarten. This seems so unbelievable to me! She has had a GREAT year at school, finding her way around, and making new friends. I look forward to the summer with her, I have so many things planned.

The Boy, well, is doing better than I ever could imagine....he's getting ready for a big change. Although he'll be receiving ESY services, once fall hits, the game changes and he'll be enrolled in Pre-School. Not a developmental Pre-School like he's in now...a full fledged, have at it, 12 crazy kids at once Pre-School! I'm so excited for him. This will be a good indicator as to how he'll handle school, and directions from teachers, and interactions with peers. He doesn't get a lot of this type of interaction where he is right now, as he's in ABA, which is a 1:1 therapy , and most of the children that are in ABA and the developmental Pre-School are non-verbal, and not very social. There are moments in our day when I swear he's not Autistic, then, he reminds me by breaking out into 'Happy Birthday" out of the blue while flapping so furiously, I swear he's going to take flight. Next year will be interesting.

There has been a bit of knitting.....I've finished a sock! I am currently working on the mate, a Lucy Bag, Green Gable(yes, still), and the lace scarf.

I love this pattern, and will blog it when I finish the second one.

On a personal note: I have recently turned 39 and seem to be having a bit of a personal crisis! I have only one wish, and it is that the last year of my thirties is better than the first year of my thirties. Also, as I told Maryanne, here's looking at 40, because it's the new 20 you know!

You got something to say?

I know I've talked about my yarn diet, and using my stash before buying new yarn.....BUT, I must confess: there has been a bit of yarn buying up in here.

First, these two colorways from 2DI4.....actually NOT a purchase, but a gift from afar!

Then, I bought these four skeins at my LYS, she had a wee bit of water damage, and I got these at 50% off! I started with one, and ended up with four...........what just happened? The yarn: Cherry Tree Hill Supersock in Cabin Fever, Jewels, Winterberry, and Java.

Last, but not least, I also bought some Plymouth Yarn Happy Feet, also on sale at my LYS. I started off with this charcoal/black/purple goth colorway, which I was happy with. The next week, though, she had this great variegated green/teal colorway which is what I originally wanted...so I grabbed that. Technically, I still have the other, it may just be going to a more deserving home....we shall see Caryn!

So, I guess the question is, did I really fall off the wagon if I had no sock yarn to begin with? In case you are curious, no, I have never knit a pair of socks, what of it?!

Every Child Begins the World Again - Henry David Thoreau

My cousin had a baby girl almost two months ago........I missed the baby shower as I didn't receive the invitation. My Aunt mailed it to my old address....craps!

This little oversight gave me more time to knit this wee number........I would like to take a moment to let you know that I knit this from my two oldest skeins of yarn. I bought this Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece about 10 years ago...I kid you not. I knit this great cabled v-neck thing. It was too big AND I sold it. If I knew what I know now, I would have ripped that sucker out and re-wound the yarn. But, I only had a mere two skeins left. I actually had a bit less than that.

Pattern: Helena
Yarn: Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in Prairie Lupine
Size: 3-6 months (seems more like 9-12 to me)
Needles: size 2 and 4 bamboo
Mods: Well, since I had less than two full skeins, I knew I wasn't going to be able to do the garter stitch border around the neckline/yoke/skirt. So, I did a two stitch applied i-cord edging. I also did three stitch i-cord ties for the closure.

I loved this pattern. It was quick, fun, and easy without being boring. My favorite part was the turned hem, and I only wish I had taken a picture of it from the wrong side. I will definitely make this again if more babies appear!

I hope to have Cactus Blossom done over the next week. I'm about half way through the yoke, and then it's just ends and blocking. Yay!

A year of snow, a year of plenty.

A french proverb, except that this is a day of snow...what the craps! Tom's car is under that pile...mine is next to his. It took us most of the day to shovel out from this mess...I like snow, but this is crazy! And when I say 'us', I mean him! Thanks, sweetie!

Next post, an actual finished project - from stash!

Between saying and doing many a pair of shoes is worn out

I just want to share my fancy new shoes......I love them. What appears to be a tan-ish color is actually a metallic gold/bronze. Actually, it is called metallic zinc......yes, they are a bit fancy with all the metallic stuff and PINK, a color which I don't usually choose. But, when one is running in the same shoes one started running with over 4 years ago, one needs new shoes. They were comfortable right out of the box, no break-in period (which is how I feel shoes should fit), and they are fairly lightweight. I'm not a serious runner, I try to do 9-12 miles a week...just enough to feel good, clear my head, and stay healthy, so these fit the bill.
